Deepfake Detection API for Cryptocurrency Exchanges

Exchanges face deepfakes at signup, at withdrawal step-up, at account recovery and on support calls. NeuroVerify checks face images, video and audio for deepfakes and manipulation beyond liveness, and returns one risk score with signal-level evidence.

It plugs into the selfie, video and voice steps you already run, so users see nothing new and your team makes one API call.

NeuroVerify does not verify documents, monitor blockchain activity or decide who can trade. Your KYC, AML and security policies keep those decisions.

The gap

The exchange is attacked at more than one point.

An exchange holds assets that can be moved in minutes and rarely recovered. Attackers therefore target every identity moment: signup, large withdrawals, device changes, password and 2FA resets, and calls to support. Each of those moments often relies on a face check, a video call or a voice conversation.

Those checks were designed for casual spoofing, such as a printed photo or a replayed clip. Generative tools now create convincing faces and cloned voices in real time. A user-facing check that confirms "a face is present" does not tell you whether the face or voice was produced by AI.

Account recovery today

Request reset → Selfie or video check → Support review → Credentials and 2FA reset

A synthetic face or cloned voice can pass each step, handing over the account and its balance.

Why the lifecycle view matters

Securing only onboarding leaves recovery and step-up open. Securing only recovery leaves mule and synthetic accounts in the base. One detection layer across all these moments keeps the same standard everywhere. See account recovery impersonation attacks and help desk impersonation attacks.

Threats

Where deepfakes hit an exchange

These are attack patterns, not claims about any specific exchange.

01

Synthetic faces at signup

A generated or swapped selfie opens an account tied to a stolen or fabricated identity.

02

Account takeover through reset requests

The attacker impersonates the owner on video to reset credentials and 2FA.

03

Cloned voice on a support call

A synthetic voice convinces an agent to change contact details or release funds.

04

Fake face at withdrawal step-up

A manipulated selfie passes a high-value withdrawal check after credentials are stolen.

05

Fraudulent institutional or VIP onboarding

A deepfaked representative passes a video meeting to open a high-limit account.

06

Rented verified accounts

Accounts verified with fake faces are sold or rented for laundering.

Where NeuroVerify fits

One layer across signup, step-up and recovery

NeuroVerify takes the face image, video or audio your flow already captures and returns an authenticity result. The same call works at signup, at step-up, in recovery and when a support agent checks a caller.

Exchange flow with NeuroVerify

Capture selfie, video or audio → NeuroVerify risk score → Your policy → Allow, review or block

The same pattern at each identity moment.

Six signals run in one request: Visual Safety Screening, Live Presence Verification, Face Manipulation Detection, AI Generative Model Analysis, AI Pixel-Level Manipulation and AI Content Compliance. Inputs are face images, video and audio, not documents.

An MCP server lets AI agents in support or fraud operations call NeuroVerify as a tool. See the account recovery solution and NeuroVerify.

01

Send the media from the identity moment

Pass the selfie, video or call audio your flow already captures to the API or SDK.

02

Read the unified risk score

One score with signal-level evidence returns in the response.

03

Route by risk and action

Apply stricter thresholds for withdrawals and resets than for low-risk actions.

04

Log the evidence

Store results against the account for investigations and chargeback-style disputes.

What you get

What it means for an exchange

Same standard at every identity moment

Signup, step-up, recovery and support share one detection layer.

Protects voice as well as face

Audio and video are analysed, which matters for support and recovery.

Less account-takeover loss exposure

Manipulated recovery attempts are flagged before credentials change.

Clear evidence for review teams

Signal-level results speed decisions and make them explainable.

Deploys where you need it

Cloud, VPC, on-premises or air-gapped options.

Questions

What teams ask before they integrate.

Can it check voice on support calls?

Yes. NeuroVerify accepts audio as well as face images and video, so it can check call audio or a recorded voice sample for synthetic speech. Your policy decides what happens on a high score.

How does this differ from the signup KYC use case?

The signup page focuses on the selfie step of KYC. This page covers the wider lifecycle: step-up checks, recovery and support. The same API call serves both. The signup page is titled Deepfake Detection API for Crypto Exchange KYC.

Do we still need a separate liveness check?

Not for this purpose. Live Presence Verification is one of the six signals NeuroVerify runs in a single request, alongside Face Manipulation Detection, AI Generative Model Analysis, AI Pixel-Level Manipulation, Visual Safety Screening and AI Content Compliance. It checks face images, video and audio from signup, recovery and support for deepfakes and manipulation beyond liveness.

If you already run a liveness vendor, keep it during evaluation and compare outcomes on your own media before deciding what to retire. The difference is explained in Deepfake Detection vs Liveness Detection.

How much work is the integration?

It fits the capture step you already run, so the end user sees nothing new. You send the media you already collect to one API call. Native mobile SDKs (Android/Kotlin, iOS/Swift, Flutter), backend SDKs (Python, TypeScript/Node.js, Go, Java) and a REST API are available, and an MCP server covers AI agents.

Two lines to integrate and live in under 24 hours are product claims. Your own timeline depends on how your identity and support stack is wired.

How fast is it, and will it slow the journey?

NeuroVerify returns in under 200 ms at p95 on eligible image requests under defined test conditions. The methodology is available on request. Video and audio take longer than a single image, so decide with your team which step runs inline and which runs in the background.

Where does the data go, and how can we deploy it?

You choose the deployment model: managed cloud API, private cloud or customer VPC, secure container, on-premises, or air-gapped. Neural Defend holds ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, ISO/IEC 42001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications. Your legal team decides consent, retention and residency for the media you send.

Details are on the deployment and product data handling pages. For the privacy angle, see GDPR, Biometrics, and Authenticity Analysis.

Can we evaluate it on our own media?

Yes, and that is the test that matters. On the public VendorBench-100 benchmark, NeuroVerify ranked first of 36 systems with a detection score (MCC) of 0.876 against 0.646 for the next-best vendor. A benchmark does not reflect your devices, lighting, compression or attack mix, so bring representative samples from your own journey.

How do we handle false positives and set thresholds?

NeuroVerify returns one unified risk score with signal-level evidence. It does not approve or reject anyone. Your policy sets the thresholds and decides what happens at each level: continue, step up to a manual review, or decline.

The signal-level evidence tells a reviewer why a case scored high, which makes review queues faster and decisions easier to explain later.
